Spirit Airlines is backing out of the Bay Area.

The airline confirmed Thursday that it is stopping service at 12 cities nationwide, including Oakland, San Jose and Sacramento, starting next month.

The airline filed for bankruptcy last month but said it’s focused on competing with other airlines.

Frontier and United airlines have both said they’re adding more flights to fill the gaps Spirit will leave open.
