Waymo Temporarily Halts Freeway Robotaxi Service for Software Updates
Waymo has temporarily suspended its robotaxi operations on freeways and paused service in Atlanta as the company works to improve its autonomous driving software, a spokesperson confirmed Friday.
According to the company, the suspension is intended to allow updates aimed at enhancing vehicle performance in challenging conditions, including construction areas and flooded roads.
Waymo’s autonomous ride service has been operating on freeway routes between San Francisco and the South Bay, as well as in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Miami.
The company said the service interruptions are temporary and that it expects all affected routes and operations to resume in the near future.
