Condé Nast Traveler names San Francisco second-best big city in the US
For the second consecutive year, San Francisco was ranked the second-best big city in the United States in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards.
San Francisco finished second to Chicago in the magazine’s big cities category. Condé Nast Traveler received responses from 798,867 readers across the U.S. rating their travel experiences.
Oakland also made the list, coming in at No. 6.
“For the second year in a row, Condé Nast Traveler readers have told us what San Francisco means to them,” said Anna Marie Presutti, president and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association. “That recognition belongs to our tourism partners across the city, who believe in San Francisco and give travelers every reason to come back.”
Condé Nast Traveler noted San Francisco’s blend of old-world charm and cutting-edge innovation, along with its distinctive character, diverse communities, luxury hotels and world-class cuisine.
The city’s walkability, iconic landmarks, neighborhoods, arts and culture, and views of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay also helped set it apart.
San Francisco recently hosted major events including Super Bowl LX, Dreamforce and the Pokémon World Championships, while the Bay Area hosted FIFA World Cup 26 matches. Local events including Pride, Outside Lands, Fleet Week and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass also drew visitors throughout the year.
Condé Nast Traveler readers also ranked San Francisco International Airport among the best U.S. airports for the second consecutive year.
