Driver Arrested After Brief Chase in Stolen Vehicle in South Bay

A driver suspected of operating a stolen vehicle was arrested early Wednesday following a brief pursuit in the South Bay that ended in a crash, authorities said.

According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4:15 a.m. to reports of a stolen car. Roughly 15 minutes later, deputies located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly sped away.

Officials said the pursuit lasted only a short time before the vehicle crashed near the interchange of Interstate 880 and Interstate 280.

Both the driver and a passenger were taken into custody at the scene. Authorities later arrested the driver and booked them into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple charges, including evading law enforcement, unlawful vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and probation violation.

No injuries were reported as a result of the chase or crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
