Brandon Aiyuk wears Commanders hat amid unending 49ers saga, arrest warrant

It has been a notably chaotic stretch for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Earlier in the week, authorities in Santa Clara County issued an arrest warrant after a video surfaced from December showing Aiyuk allegedly driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph near Levi’s Stadium.

Days later, the 28-year-old added intrigue to his situation by posting photos on Instagram that quickly caught attention. In one image, Aiyuk is seen wearing a Washington Commanders hat, while another includes a cryptic caption featuring emojis that loosely suggests, “Stop the cap, the gig is up.” Though the exact meaning remains unclear, the choice of headwear appears deliberate amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding his status with the 49ers.

Tensions between Aiyuk and the organization have lingered since his ACL injury in 2024, with the team reportedly maintaining patience as the situation unfolds. However, signs increasingly point toward an eventual separation.

The Washington Commanders have long been viewed as a potential landing spot. Aiyuk shares a prior connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels, as the two were teammates at Arizona State in 2019—fueling speculation about a possible reunion.

Complicating matters further, reports indicate that both the 49ers and other interested teams have struggled to reach Aiyuk in recent months, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already unusual situation.

As questions continue to mount, Aiyuk’s future in San Francisco appears more uncertain than ever.
