130 Residents Forced Out After Structural Concerns at Santa Clara Condo Complex

More than 100 residents were displaced Sunday after structural problems were discovered at a condominium complex in Santa Clara, city officials confirmed.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Santa Clara Fire Department responded to reports of “displaced concrete” at Villa Bella, located at 1850 El Camino Real. As a precaution, about 60 residents were evacuated from the building. In addition, occupants of 10 nearby homes on Clay Street were asked to leave due to their location within a potential collapse zone.

The city opened its Community Recreation Center to provide temporary shelter, though most residents chose to arrange accommodations on their own.

After conducting an assessment, authorities determined the building was not at immediate risk of collapsing. As a result, the collapse zone was lifted, allowing Clay Street residents to return home.

However, officials concluded that structural shoring is required on the building’s north side before residents can safely reoccupy the complex. The city has contacted the developer responsible for the property to address the necessary repairs. In total, 130 residents have been displaced due to the situation.

City officials said they are coordinating with the American Red Cross to support affected residents and secure alternative housing options. Displaced individuals are also encouraged to reach out to their insurance providers for additional assistance.
