Adult and Child Killed in Fiery Four-Vehicle Crash on Highway 87 in San Jose
An adult and a child died Tuesday in a fiery four-vehicle collision on northbound Highway 87 in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:49 a.m. near Curtner Avenue and involved two Teslas, a Lexus, and a Toyota Sienna. The CHP reported that both Teslas and the Lexus caught fire. The two victims were passengers in the Lexus, whose driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that have not yet been disclosed.
One of the Tesla drivers was also hospitalized, while details regarding injuries connected to the second Tesla were not immediately available.
All northbound lanes were closed for several hours following the crash and reopened around 3:45 p.m. The Toyota Sienna driver remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and was later released.
The cause of the collision is still being investigated, though the CHP said there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors.
