California Company Recalls 245,000 Pounds of Pasta Linked to Deadly Listeria Outbreak

A California-based food manufacturer has issued a recall of nearly 245,000 pounds of pre-cooked pasta after it was connected to a listeria outbreak that has resulted in four deaths and 20 illnesses since August 2024.

Nate’s Fine Foods, located in Roseville, recalled various pasta products—including linguine, fettuccine, and penne—on September 25. These items were supplied to major producers of ready-to-eat meals and pasta salads, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alert released Thursday.

The recall followed testing that detected the same listeria strain in Nate’s pasta as that found in contaminated chicken fettuccine Alfredo and meatball linguine dishes associated with the outbreak. The most recent illness was reported on September 11.

FreshRealm, a meal production company based in San Clemente, California, conducted genetic testing to confirm the connection between the pasta and the outbreak.

Several major grocery chains have since recalled products containing Nate’s pasta. The FDA and U.S. Department of Agriculture have urged consumers not to eat any of the affected items, advising they be discarded or returned for a refund.
