Driver Dies After Car Plunges From Santa Cruz Wharf
A fatal incident occurred Sunday morning when a car went over the edge of the Santa Cruz Wharf, according to local authorities. Emergency crews were alerted at approximately 9:44 a.m. to reports of a vehicle that had driven off the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf and into the water below.
Within about ten minutes, responders located the submerged vehicle upside down, with its windows still intact. The driver inside was found unconscious. They were removed from the vehicle and transported to a hospital, but officials confirmed the individual did not survive.
A dog that was also discovered in the water was safely rescued and is now in the care of animal control.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine how the vehicle left the wharf.
