Early Voting Begins in Santa Clara County Ahead of Heated Nov. 4 Special Election

Early voting officially opened Monday for Santa Clara County residents participating in the upcoming Nov. 4 special election, which features the controversial Proposition 50 on the statewide ballot.
The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters announced that more than 100 secure drop boxes have been placed throughout the county, offering residents multiple convenient options to submit their ballots. The Registrar’s Office is also open for those who prefer to vote in person ahead of Election Day.
Proposition 50 has drawn significant debate, as it proposes to temporarily redraw California’s legislative districts along political lines in response to what supporters describe as partisan redistricting practices in Texas. Proponents argue that the measure would help level the playing field, while critics call it a politically motivated move that could deepen division.
In addition to the statewide measure, Santa Clara County voters will decide on a local proposal to temporarily raise the sales tax, a measure designed to offset more than $1 billion in federal funding losses. County officials say the increase is necessary to maintain key public services, while opponents warn it could burden local businesses and working families.
Early voting will continue through Election Day, and officials encourage residents to cast their ballots early to avoid long lines and ensure their votes are counted on time.
