Man Dies After Walking Into Traffic on Highway 87 in San Jose

A man was killed late last week after entering traffic on the southbound side of Highway 87 in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, when a Ford Fusion traveling at approximately 65 mph struck the pedestrian, who stepped onto the freeway near Taylor Street for reasons that remain unknown.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene about 10 minutes later, the CHP reported in a statement Monday.

The driver was unharmed, remained at the scene, and cooperated with authorities. Investigators said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

Southbound lanes were shut down for nearly two hours while officers conducted their investigation, with traffic rerouted onto Taylor Street.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s identity once his family is notified.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact the CHP’s San Jose area office at (408) 961-0900.
