Mother Arrested After Toddler Falls From Moving SUV in Southern California

A La Habra woman was taken into custody on suspicion of child endangerment after her toddler fell out of a moving vehicle in Fullerton, police announced Monday.

The incident occurred Jan. 20 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the intersection of North Euclid Street and West Malvern Avenue. Police said surveillance footage showed the child falling from the passenger side of a black SUV onto the roadway.

Video of the incident shows the vehicle stopping immediately, after which the female driver exited the SUV and picked up the child. After the footage began circulating on social media, a witness contacted the Fullerton Police Department over the weekend and provided details about the vehicle.

Investigators identified the SUV as belonging to 35-year-old Jacqueline Hernandez of La Habra. She was later arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse. The 19-month-old child suffered injuries consistent with the fall and was transported to a hospital, where officials said the toddler is expected to fully recover.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and are asking any additional witnesses to come forward.
