Officials are looking for a person of interest in connection with the arson fires at San Jose State University

Police and fire marshals are seeking public assistance in locating a person of interest believed to have deliberately set two fires on the San Jose State University campus, according to university police and Cal Fire.

On March 31st, around 5:20 p.m., SJSU police responded to a fire on campus, which was later determined to be arson. A suspect was captured on security camera footage.

Another fire occurred on April 8th in the same area as the March 31st blaze, both inside restrooms at the Martin Luther King Library, authorities stated. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

SJSU police and the arson and bomb unit from Cal Fire’s Office of the State Fire Marshal are conducting a joint investigation and search for the person of interest. The state fire agency is involved due to the incidents happening on state property.

If anyone locates the suspect, they are urged to contact SJSU police at 408-924-2222 or call the Arson and Bomb Unit at 213-302-5855, or send an email to arsonbomb@fire.ca.gov.
