Plane crash in Santa Cruz County leaves two injured

Two people were injured when a remote-controlled airplane crashed into a porch near Watsonville on Saturday.

The crash came as the annual Watsonville Municipal Airport Open House was being held, which featured a range of events including the “Fire in the Sky” air show.

The plane crashed at about 7 p.m. into a house in the 300 block of Buena Vista Drive, according to the the Santa Cruz County Fire Department.

The property is just north of the airport in an unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County, just outside the Watsonville city limits.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement late Saturday on Facebook that the plane was “large” and that the two adults who were injured were taken to a hospital.

Images shared by the sheriff’s office showed a hole in a section of a wooden porch with wired components and the shattered fragments of a red and white RC plane resting in and around it.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
