Silicon Valley startup secures major funding to help homes fight wildfires

A Silicon Valley company has received a major investment to expand its technology that helps protect homes from wildfires.

Frontline Wildfire Defense announced it raised $48 million in an eight-figure funding round from venture capitalists in Menlo Park. The company’s roof- and eave-mounted sprinkler system automatically sprays water and firefighting foam when a wildfire approaches, creating a protective barrier around the home.

Founder Harry Statter said that during recent wildfires in Los Angeles, 96% of homes equipped with Frontline’s system survived. That success, he explained, convinced investors to support the company’s expansion.

“This is a big milestone,” Statter said. “With this financing, we can protect more homes, businesses, and communities. We’re now expanding into 12 western states and going even further.”

Frontline is collaborating with architects and home builders to accelerate installations of its systems, which currently cost tens of thousands of dollars per home. Statter added that as production increases, costs are expected to drop.

The company is also exploring partnerships with insurance providers that could offer homeowners premium discounts for installing wildfire protection systems like Frontline’s.
