Police Arrest Man Suspected of Shooting Mountain View Officer During Traffic Stop

Mountain View police tweeted Sunday that the man suspected of shooting their officer was safely apprehended.

The suspect was later identified as Jeffrey Choy, 33, of Stockton. Mountain View police tweeted a photo of Choy being taken into custody Sunday afternoon.

Mountain View police said Choy was arrested by U.S. Marshals along with police detectives following a short foot pursuit in Fremont before noon Sunday.

The officer was injured in the shooting during a traffic stop at Villa Street and Wild Cherry Lane early Saturday morning, shortly after midnight.

According to officials, the officer is a 5-year veteran of the department, who was working an overtime shift focusing on DUI patrol.

The officer was shot and wounded in the upper body by Choy in the stopped vehicle, according to officials. The officer did not return fire. Police said that Choy then drove a short distance away from the scene, when he crashed his car and fled.

Mountain View police declared Saturday night that the officer was later released from the hospital and is currently recovering at home.
