Vehicle Crash leaves 1 Dead in South San Jose

San Jose police were investigating a solo vehicle crash early Wednesday morning that left a man dead, according to the police department.

Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, a vehicle struck a tree in the area of East Capitol Expressway and Seven Trees Boulevard, police said. The driver died at the scene.

Roads were closed in the area as police investigated the crash.

It’s the 62nd fatal crash and 64th death on San Jose streets this year, police said.

But the issue of driver and pedestrian safety isn’t new in San Jose.

In 2012, two pedestrians were killed at Taylor And Sixth Streets In Japantown, sparking a push for new safety measures in that area.

Business owners and residents said the area needed more than flashing crosswalk lights and cones and they’re glad the intersection of problem solving, and perseverance paid off.

The City of San Jose is also working on putting up other traffic signals, including a new one on Tully Road sometime next year.

Anyone with information on the case, the 62nd fatal collision on San Jose city streets in 2022, is asked to contact Detective O’Brien of the Police Department’s traffic investigations unit at (408) 277-4654 or 3527@sanjoseca.gov.
