Actress Michelle Trachtenberg, known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harriet the Spy, and Gossip Girl, has been found dead at the age of 39 in New York City, according to a police spokesperson.
The NYPD responded to a 911 call around 8 a.m. Wednesday to a luxury apartment in the Columbus Circle area. Upon arrival, officers discovered Trachtenberg unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene, which was identified as her residence. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, though police have stated that “criminality is not suspected.”
Trachtenberg gained widespread recognition for her role as Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the early 2000s, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar. Her career also included roles in Harriet the Spy, one of her early acting projects, and Gossip Girl, where she portrayed Georgina Sparks.
In January, Trachtenberg addressed concerns from fans on social media about her health. When a fan commented on her appearance, she responded, stating, “Explain to me how I look sick. Did you lose a calendar and not realize I’m not 14. I’m 38.” She also shared a post defending herself, saying, “This is my face. Not malnutrition, no problems.”
