Roger Craig Among 52 Seniors Candidates for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Former San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig, the first player in NFL history to record 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season, is included among the 52 remaining senior candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

The Seniors Blue-Ribbon Committee will narrow the list from 52 to nine through two separate votes in the coming weeks. From there, three finalists will be selected to appear on the final ballot for the 2026 class.

Craig, 65, played 11 seasons in the NFL, spending his first eight with the 49ers and making the playoffs every year of his career. He earned four Pro Bowl selections, one All-Pro nod, and was part of three Super Bowl-winning teams with San Francisco. In 1985, he made history by rushing for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns while catching 92 passes for 1,016 yards and six additional touchdowns.

This marks Craig’s third time as a finalist. He was considered a modern-era candidate in 2010 and a senior finalist in 2020. Other notable players among the 52 seniors candidates include linebacker Maxie Baughan, offensive lineman Jim Tyrer, and receiver Art Powell, all of whom have previously been finalists but fell short of election.
