Suspected Road Rage Shooting at Valley Fair Leaves One Injured, One Arrested
San Jose police are investigating a suspected road rage shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of Westfield Valley Fair.
Authorities said one person was arrested and another was hospitalized after the shooting, which was reported shortly after 4 p.m. in the 2800 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard.
According to investigators, the suspect and victim may have been involved in a confrontation related to road rage before the shooting took place.
When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Police also recovered a firearm at the scene. The victim was transported to a hospital, while the suspect was taken into custody. The investigation remains active.
The shooting happened outside the mall and has raised concerns among shoppers and employees, particularly after a separate shooting inside Valley Fair during Black Friday last year caused panic among holiday crowds.
“It’s scary because people see this as a safe place,” one witness said.
Westfield Valley Fair released a statement Tuesday evening confirming it is cooperating with law enforcement regarding the incident near the Bank of America area of the property.
Mall officials said operations inside the shopping center were not affected and businesses were advised to continue normal operations while the investigation proceeds.
Workers at the mall said the latest violence has left many feeling uneasy.
“It’s surprising to see this happen here, especially after the shooting around Thanksgiving,” said Rich, a maintenance worker at the mall. “It definitely makes people who work here nervous.”
