Silicon Valley Pride celebrates 50th anniversary

Silicon Valley Pride celebrated its 50th anniversary with a festival Saturday in downtown San Jose.
The event, called “Unstoppable: 50 Years of Love, Legacy and Liberation,” took place at Plaza de Cesar Chavez.
Silicon Valley Pride is marking a milestone in a big way — with a concert, drag queen performances and vendors. The festival honors half a century of activism and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
More than 2,000 people were expected to attend the festival — the largest Pride celebration in the South Bay.
Many feel the gathering is critical to fostering a sense of belonging and uplifting marginalized voices.
“To be here for 50 years and to say we’re not going anywhere and we’re going to be loud about it, I think is really important, especially given the political climate,” said Lady Jesus of Mountain View.
What started as a gay rights rally down Stockton Street 50 years ago has evolved into the South Bay’s largest Pride celebration.
