Five individuals injured in a collision in San Jose involving a patrol car from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office
Five individuals were injured in a collision involving a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office patrol car during a pursuit in San Jose on Sunday afternoon, as reported by the sheriff’s office.
The crash, involving two vehicles, occurred around 12:35 p.m. in the vicinity of Commodore Drive and King Road, according to the San Jose Police Department. The sheriff’s office stated that a deputy was pursuing a vehicle when they collided with an unrelated SUV.
All four occupants of the SUV were hospitalized with injuries described as “non-life threatening,” the sheriff’s office noted, adding that the deputy also sustained minor injuries. The pursuit began near Berryessa Road and North Capitol Avenue, where deputies attempted to pull over a speeding driver — not associated with the SUV — who then fled.
Following the collision, other deputies continued the pursuit until they disabled the suspect’s vehicle with spike strips. The suspect was apprehended by deputies when he attempted to flee on foot.
The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, evading a peace officer, possession of stolen property, and delaying/obstructing arrest.
