A San Jose police officer has been charged in connection with a series of domestic violence incidents

A San Jose police officer is facing multiple felony domestic violence charges after allegedly firing a gun inside his home and assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, according to a release from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office on Wednesday.

Officer Timothy Hackney of Morgan Hill has been charged with discharging his duty weapon inside his home, false imprisonment, and several assaults on his girlfriend, as stated by the DA.

The violent incidents, which started over a year ago, included Hackney, 31, forcibly throwing his girlfriend into a bedroom and preventing her from leaving, covering her mouth to stop her from screaming, and slapping a phone out of her hand to prevent her from calling 911, according to the DA’s office.

In one incident, he fired his duty weapon at the ceiling, and Morgan Hill police later found a hole in the roof consistent with a gunshot, the DA said.

The most recent incident occurred on June 7, the DA added.

Hackney was arraigned on both felony and misdemeanor charges at the South County Courthouse in Morgan Hill on Tuesday and was released under unspecified conditions. It is not clear if he entered a plea.

If convicted, Hackney faces potential jail time.
