Two people survive after a small plane crashes and flips upside down in a California field

Two people escaped unharmed after their small plane crashed and flipped upside down in a Central California field on Sunday morning, officials reported.

The aircraft went down around 11:15 a.m. in a vegetable field near Minter Field Airport in Shafter, a Kern County community near Bakersfield, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

Upon arrival, first responders found the plane in the middle of the field with no signs of smoke or fire, the department stated.

“Firefighters quickly gathered tools and medical equipment before approaching the wreckage,” the department shared on social media. “Upon reaching the plane, they were relieved to find both occupants safely outside and declining medical attention.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct an investigation into the crash.
